Our Local Offer: Aberfeldy Community Hubs

Our Track Record

The Aberfeldy Centre hosts a range of activities for the local community:

  • Community café with internet facilities
  • The Abertots Nursery serves working parents in the estate
  • A wide variety of after school and weekend activities for children including a homework club, school holiday play, kick boxing group and gardening club
  • Local dance and music tutors provide low-cost tuition to children
  • Partners such as Citizens Advice Bureau and Limehouse Advice Network run weekly welfare, money and debt and other advice sessions. We also host the local councillor’s surgery
  • Elders’ Club, bingo and Elders’ lunches offer a safe space for older resident to socialise, especially those who live on their own
  • Trained volunteers make regular welfare calls to our older residents in the estate especially during the pandemic. As a UK Online Centre, the Aberfeldy Centre uses Digital Champions to support older people’s digital needs
  • Festivals and events with local partners such as Big Local, St. Nick’s Church, local developers and businesses have drawn crowds of over 500 people and enable the local community to celebrate special occasions together over shared food and exchange cultural experiences
  • Summer activities enable 60 children from low income families each year to experience an enjoyable summer holiday which they otherwise would not be able to afford
"As someone with health issues, I'm often housebound and isolated, which was made worse by COVID. Poplar HARCA encouraged me to join sessions at the Centres. Their guidance and approach made it a safe place to come and participate. I enjoyed making connections with people during the course that gave me social interaction that I would have not otherwise had."
